The moment of space and memory Part of the nature of existence of human being is to establish one's identity with which one develops a sense of belonging and similarity to others. Nevertheless, the desire to be unique and recognizable among a group of similar ones is also part of the nature of establishing one's own nature. In a social context, identity gathers values and behaviors of a group of people who share together with one another. One person confirms its identity through the negation of the opposite, which enables the existence of multiple identities, where recognizing the existence of other identities and confirming them through their negation allows a context compounded by humans of multiple identities. The difference among identities is given by physical characteristics, born given, religious views, social habits, behavioral practices and way of dressing, which varies according to individual characteristics or group tendencies. There is also the identity created by the place where people share experiences at different times and with varied effects, depending on the emotional influence perceived by those actors who wrote their story in one same place. Lived experience has reciprocal relation and is subject to be influenced by identity; this (identity) influences experience as well and determines its permanence (the one of the experience) in memory's remembrance. Memory exists by its relation to space. It is that one moment between space and memory that this exhibition formulates: the interaction between space [North American Art] and memory [collection of artwork in display]. The pieces that make up North American Art: Identity, Place and Memory, allow us to acknowledge the memories of north American artists seen from perspectives that have been influenced by their identity, by the emotional effect sensed when one experience was lived, that which is directly connected with one's self-consciousness, that built up memory and originated the creation of the pieces in display. Alienation of the artwork result of the materialization of remembrances of artist's memories, allows the creation of a concept or meaning as resul t of the interaction between viewers with the exhibited pieces. These connections exist when reading, imaging, remembering and acknowledging that at places which were part of the construction of memory and identity of the artists, something happened and they lived it and we, as spectators, have the chance to see it and be part of it when recording it in our memory. El momento del espacio y la memoria Parte de la naturaleza de la existencia del ser humano es establecer una identidad con la cual desarrolle un sentido de pertenencia y semejanza con otros. Sin embargo, el deseo por ser l'.mico y reconocible entre un grupo de semejantes, tambien hace parte de la naturaleza de establecer su propia identidad. En un contexto social, la identidad reune los valores y comportamientos de un grupo de personas que comparten en compariia uno del otro. Una persona afirma su identidad a traves de la negaci6n de lo contrario, lo que habilita la existencia de multiples identidades, donde reconocer existencia de otras identidades y afirmarlas a traves de la negaci6n permite un entorno compuesto por humanos de identidades multiples. La diferencia entre identidades existe por rasgos fisicos innatos de nacimiento, creencias religiosas, habitos sociales y practicas de comportamiento y vestimenta, que varian de acuerdo a caracteristicas individuales o tendencias grupales. Tambien existe la identidad creada por el lugar donde personas comparten vivencias en momentos diferentes y con efectos variados dependiendo de la influencia emocional percibida por aquellos actores que escribieron su historia en un mismo lugar. La experiencia vivida en un lugar tiene relaci6n reciproca yes sensible a ser influenciada por la identidad. La experiencia y el lugar influencian la identidad; ella (identidad) a su vez influencia la experiencia y determina su permanencia (la de la experiencia) en el recuerdo de la memoria . La memoria existe por su relaci6n con el espacio. Es ese momenta existente entre el espacio y la memoria lo que formula esta exhibici6n: la interacci6n entre el espacio [Arte Norteamericano] y memoria [colecci6n de obras en exhibici6n]. Las obras que componen Arte Norteamericano: ldentidad, Lugar y Memoria, permiten conocer los recuerdos de artistas norteamericanos vistos desde perspectivas que han sido influenciadas por su propia identidad, por el efecto emocional percibido al momenta de vivir una experiencia, aquella que esta conectada directamente con el consciente de sf mismo, que construy6 la memoria y que origin6 la creaci6n de la piezas en muestra . La alienaci6n de las obras resultado de la materializaci6n de recuerdos de la memoria de los artistas, permite la creaci6n de un concepto o significado resultado de la interacci6n entre los espectadores con las piezas en muestra . Estas conexiones existen al leer, imaginar, recordar y conocer queen los lugares que hicieron parte de la construcci6n de memoria e identidad de los artistas, algo sucedi6, ellos lo vivieron y nosotros, como espectadores, tenemos la oportunidad de verlo y ser parte de ello al grabarlo en nuestra memoria . This drawing explores the idea of identity, memory and place sometimes grows from unexpected places. The double-sided horse has a growth emerging from the center that looks natural yet somewhat uncanny. The growth looks somewhat tumor like but the title lets the viewer know that it is something special.

Este dibujo explora la idea de identidad, memoria y lugar que a veces crece desde lugares inesperados. El caballo de doble lado tiene un crecimiento que emerge desde el centro y que parece natural, sin embargo, a Igo misterioso. El crecimiento parece como un tu mos pero el tftulo permite al espectador conocer que es algo especial.

I loved the orange vinyl couch in our basement. My mom hated it, which is why it was in the basement. - It had wedge shaped cushions and it was my boat, airplane or fort. The walls were wood paneling - it was the 70s in Denver, Colorado after all. Your childhood home holds so many memories. Sometimes I wonder if I actually remember some of my earliest memories or I just think I do from pictures I've seen. Regardless, these earliest memories of home are very much a part of me, and who I have become. Me encantaba el sofa de vinilo naranja de nuestro s6tano. A veces me pregunto si yo realmente recuerdo algunas de mi memorias mas tempranas o solamente pienso que lo hago al ver las fotos. Loque sea, estas memorias tempranas de casa son muy pa rte de mf, y de qui en me he convertido.

Significant moments are how my work is driven. Waterline is a portrait of a hobbyist's workshop divided by a red and white stripe that is seen on boats to signify the level at which the water should rise when afloat safely. This is a place of identity and memory where my father spent many hours making model airplanes and boats in his retirement. The image was taken in January 2015 after a moving experience where his presence was felt in his absence (passing).
