Silkscreen photograph on Rives 11 x 8.5 inches | 2022 During times of trouble we tend to fall back on what remains possible. We look for the slivers of the bright light of hope to transport us through difficult passages in our individual and collective lives. “Hope Remains” looks to reinforcing the fabric of our social conscience. The children of the world, acts of kindness, responsibility in caring for the natural world, and a continuous flow of honest dialogue remain constants in the hope of moving toward a better future for humankind.

What Color Was The Sky Photocopy broken down, colored pencils, fabric paper, markers 11 x 8.5 inches | 2022 Was the sky grey or pale blue? Had it just rained? What did you hear? What did the air smell like? Were you happy or scared? Driving to school or work, walking to the market, or running home, your eyes witness images that imprint on the mind. However, images begin to breakdown and pixelate like photocopies as they get farther from the original. What remains is a feeling or a memory that shifts over time. What remains with you?

Mixed media: collage, ink, mica powder, gouache, cotton thread, on perforated origami and vellum 6 x 8.25 inches | 2022 As I send this work onward to Sarajevo, from California, I hope the presence of my hand—the actions I took in making this artwork—remains. I hope viewers see it and remember the feeling of crumpling, hole punching, or smoothing out a wrinkled page. Perhaps the idea of saving something, valuing something which might otherwise be discarded, will resonate with viewers. Torn, crumbling, and flimsy can also be beautiful, delicate, and enduring. Attention, savoring, adornment, craft and tenderness can remain.

Remains of Pokémon Charred Pokémon card and pine needles | 8 x 11 inches | 2021 The Marshall Fire, near my home in Colorado, was the result of high winds, dry air and carelessness by a local resident. It spread quickly and destroyed 1000 homes. Amid the burned rubble of household items left behind was a box of charred Pokémon playing cards; a child’s collection, traded among friends and painstakingly assembled in what was a metal box. I gingerly extracted an ashen remnant of a card from its now melted container, and mounted it behind burned pine needles
