Bosnia and Herzegovina is a geographical and cultural location to which we are deeply connected by our birth and upbringing. However, Bosnia and Herzegovina as a sovereign country was "created" after the disintegration offonner Yugoslavia. We were born under the flag and social values and principles ofYugoslavia. The historic andpolitical conditions that shaped this region involve contiguous tunnoil Conflicts shaped and reshapedphysical boundaries ofthis geo(politica/) location, dating from the Bosnian medieval history. They deeply affected the national and religious ties and relations ofits inhabitants, which inevitably fragmented our collective perceptions and our personal identities. In the first piece, the ever-changing historic alterations ofthe Bosnian/Herzegovinian national and state symbols (flags, coats ofanns) .. provide evidence ofthe continuous fragmentation ofour national (cultural, religious, social, etc) identity.... In the third video, A Bosnian artist physically and metaphorically faces a concrete wall - a powerful signifier of (selj) imposed (real and mental) boundaries th;t people ofBosnia/Herzegovina are confronted with....In the second video, three static video frames display three particular images (each associated with a corresponding text) enclosed in a rectangle - an ~rased' or emptied out' image ofthe Yugoslav flag. Each frame focused on the dominant symbol ofYugoslavia - the red star. They reveal the country's changing relationship to its socialist values.
