The butterfly in Aztec beliefs meant “transformation.” The word for butterfly in Nahuatl is “papalotl.” My art piece was derived from a replica of the butterfly symbol found on pyramid carvings. I chose this image because the Women’s Leadership Retreat in Uganda seeks to transform disempowerment into EMPOWERMENT.
